This necklace was repurposed from a vintage belt buckle that has been decorated using cloisonné; an ancient technique involving intricately soldering thin pieces of wire to separate colourful gemstone or enamel designs, often with floral and nature themed motifs. The first pieces date back to 1200 BC; being used on the pectoral plates adorned by pharaohs, as well as being found decorating the tomb of Tutankhamen.
This one has butterflies, flowers and leaves painted with beautiful gradation on a ruby red background. The former buckle is attached to a vintage brass herringbone chain.
